Magazine Time: Peppermint

Peppermint Magazine

Australian mag Peppermint is a pretty great read if you’re interested in eco-savvy lifestyle and fashion and like your beauty products natural. The Winter issue is out now, and this weekend I curled up with a cup of coffee and had a read.Peppermint MagazinePeppermint is a refreshing counterbalance to other fashion mags, and the kind of clothes and  consumption they sell us, but  I sometimes feel editorials with a real “ethical” or “eco” slant can be a bit earnest. While there’s lot’s of green there is also some beautiful styling in this issue, and some lovely photography, as well as in depth and thoughtful articles with a new take on fashion. There’s an interesting piece of Frei Designs designer Annie Novotny, who always  designs with a story in mind, (the current collection is Frida Kahlo meets Japanese Geisha) and an emphasis on local production and natural, organic materials. As well as fashion  there’s plenty on “eco art”, food new products and craft as well, but my favourite article is about Dianna Bautista and The Trade Foundation, which is teaching women living poverty the skills to run hairdressing and beauty salons, and through their small businesses provide for their families. Thoughtful and positive? Yes. Earnest and depressing? Not at all.
